Cross Country Season is Over

This afternoon we attended the Cross Country End of Season Awards. He received his Varsity pin, Runner of the Meet for his breakout race at Leavitt, and earned The Coaches Award! I'm so very proud  of his efforts this season, and it's nice that his coach recognizes and appreciates the character underneath his 'jokester' facade. This is such a great group of friends and I wish them all the best of luck in their future runs!
It's always so sad to see the cross country season end, but it's especially bittersweet this year. I might've gotten a bit misty eyed when I realized I won't be attending any more meets. I'll always remember that afternoon when big brother came home and 'out of the blue' announced that he had joined the cross country team! That was definitely a life-changing moment for everyone in our family.

Festival of Champions

This morning he raced in the Unseeded Boys race and came in 5th place! What I liked best was watching all the boys high-fiving and congratulating each other for a great run. The encouragement and sportsmanship that we witness at cross-country meets is one of the reasons we love this sport!

Personal Best

This afternoon he pushed hard (and still had fun!) and achieved a personal best time! I was so proud watching him dig in and run fast. He was so happy!!

Seen at the State XC meet...

How do you make hundreds of nervous teen-aged runners relax and laugh? Trot around the course in a dinosaur costume!

At the State Meet:

In Box #1:
The Vikings, from Oxford Hills! And their proud coach, who got them here!!
All of us spectators agreed - we've never seen such a hotly-contested, closely-packed race as this one...the boys came back bloodied and mad about not having enough room to race. It was crazy!

And, don't ever let anyone tell you the cross-country is easy...

Cross-Country Regionals

I'm a very proud cross-country mom! He left it all on the course - literally! Today's race was incredibly fast because they were all running to qualify for the state meet next weekend. 2 boys from our team qualified, and although my son didn't, I couldn't be more proud of the way that he ran today. He just wasn't fast enough against the field of runners that showed up to compete - they are incredible. Congrats to all of the qualifiers!
