As if she couldn't stop traffic on her own!

This afternoon my lunchtime walk was like strolling through an antique Rolls Royce show!  They were parked and/or driving all up and down Main Street because they had just left an owners' gathering up on Paris Hill.  There is a group from all over the continent that tour together.  This particular lady was having a hard time getting out of the parking lot and asked for me help.  I said, "Sure, as long as I can take a picture first."  That was so worth stepping out into the line of traffic for...what a grand old car!

It's been ages since we have run together...

When I picked him up from school this afternoon he was complaining about missing cross-country practice because of a school project.  I asked him what he missed and he said it was a long-slow-distance day.  Well, I can't do speed-work with him, but slow I can do!  It was a picture perfect fall evening, which made for a great run.  Best of all, slow running means you're supposed to be able to hold a conversation, which we did for the entire time.  It was great 'catching up' with him!

Amber's 1st Cani-Cross

My older son ran with Amber in her first cani-cross today!  He was nervous because he had never run with her before, but once she got over the chaos of the starting line, she figured out that she needed to catch up to the speedy dog in front of her and kept her eyes glued on him.  Unfortunately, Goldens just aren't bred for speed, so after the initial excitement wore off, she slowed down too much to catch that black & white dog.  He's an experienced and prize-winning sled dog though, so no shame in that.  She did her best and was still wagging her tail when she crossed the finish line in 2nd place!  And, my son had the biggest grin on his face - as much as he loves to run, I've never seen him smile as he crosses the finish line.  He thought that cani-cross was an awful lot of fun.  Because he presented such a challenge and would have won had he had a faster dog, the winning runner offered to let him borrow a sled-dog at the next race!  He said that he had been watching that other runner just fly with that fast dog pulling him and he can't wait to try it.

Homecoming Meet at Roberts Farm

The best part of home meets is that my parents get to see the boys run, and boy did they ever!  They love the difficult trails on their home course.  Big brother came in 5th overall, (1st for his team!)  and li'l brother worked hard and ran a personal best for cross-country.  I'm so glad that we were all there to see them shine!

Yarn-craft

My mother made this when she was a little girl.  I'm going to try to finish it off into a seat cushion this winter.

Training...

My half-marathon training took a slight detour thanks to my cycling accident a few weeks ago, and I've been worried about how little running I've been doing.  Then, we ran past this sign and I realized that regardless of how fast I go across that finish line, I have thoroughly enjoyed getting there!  And am already thinking about which race will be the next one...

A great cross-country course...

Because I could see and take pictures of the runners 4 times!  He came in first for his team and placed 16th overall.

Rainy-day Meet

Ah, but they'll run anyway.  It's a good thing I don't mind getting wet while watching them get muddy!

Northwoods Gravel Grind

Today he rode in his first gravel grind.  It was a grueling 35 mile course through the mountains surrounding Rangeley, Maine.  He was really, really nervous, but ended up having a great time and doing much better than he expected.  He completed it in 2 hours and 36 minutes; placing 19th out of 29 riders!

An amazing show!

Last night a couple of my girlfriends and I saw the band, Chevelle, play at the State Theatre in Portland, again.  I might say they were even better this time!
