1st & 2nd Place Boys Under 18

Well, it was a really, really tough course (as promised) but, they both did very, very well.  There were some fierce competitors out there on the trails, and they got a little bit off-track, but they were so happy to win great prizes.  They can't wait until the next race at the end of next month!  I can't wait either because I didn't end up running it.  We started out, but a little boy gave up and refused to run any further, so I had to walk him back to his parents at the finish line.  It was quite disappointing, but I couldn't just leave him alone in the woods!

This is why I can't sleep tonight...

This is a Roberts Farm trail map.  Tomorrow afternoon the boys and I are running the first of the 8.5k Nomad Trail Running Series races.  I'm not sure that I'm ready for this, although I can't wait to try!

Sorry about supper, boyz!

I'm going to be a little bit late because this little cutie pie isn't quite done visiting with me yet...she just grabbed my hand and pulled me away from my car!

West Paris Memorial Day Parade

Our sons always march with the Boy Scouts in the parade.  We took Amber along with us to watch them, and she even got to march for a while!

Grampa's Bow

This evening he shot Grampa's bow for the first time.  It was a bit scary because it is extremely powerful.  Which, of course, meant that the instructor and the other boys in the class just had to try it...

Better late than never, right?!

We were finally able to gather the whole family together to celebrate my nephew's 11th birthday.
Yay!  Happy day!!

Sea Dogs in the rain?

It was pouring buckets, but we figured if they were still going to play, then we would bring our umbrellas and towels and watch them...but, right after we arrived it stopped raining.  The girls ended up sitting under the umbrellas to avoid getting a sunburn.
We all had a blast watching a great game, and we finally got to see them win!

Another Visit with the Yaks

We stopped at Harvest Hill Farm for an ice cream treat, and of course, a visit with my boyfriend, Mr. Yak.  I approached him and started patting his face, then turned to my husband and asked, "Do you suppose he remembers me?"  Immediately upon hearing my voice, Mr. Yak moved himself alongside the fence and leaned right up against it so that I could scratch him.  Oh yeah, he remembered me!

Good thing I have nerves of steel...

Just kidding!  Today was the first time he drove me around in my car and he is a very good, very cautious driver.

Happy Mother's Day!

I generally consider myself a very fortunate individual.  Today was no exception.  It was a gorgeous day, and I was able to spend it with my mother, enjoying her beautiful yard.  I'm very fortunate indeed.

Continuing our annual tradition...

We have been looking forward to this visit to Young's Greenhouse all spring!
They always have so many amazing plants to choose from!
So, we wandered around for an hour or so checking out our options...

Then, we hurried home with their choices (perennials again this year!) so that they could get them planted before dark...

'And down the stretch they come...'

This evening Oxford Hills hosted a track meet, which my son competed in.  This is his first year on the team and it has been a learning experience.  Except for the running part...he already knew he liked that.  Although he still prefers the longer distances.  Here he is at the finish line for the 3200 meter run(2-miler), sprinting past another runner!

Seen at a track meet!

This morning the organizers of the Mid-Winter 10 Mile Classic asked if anyone had seen the shirt being worn...I just had to post this picture of my step-daughter wearing it that very day!  She's quite proud of that shirt - she worked HARD for it!!

Enjoying a nice spring evening...finally!

We have been experiencing unseasonably cold weather for several weeks now, but this evening felt like spring!

What a day!

A whole lot happened today, and I was the official photographer, so I can't possibly post just 1 photo...

This morning we participated in the Towns2gether 5k to raise money for Paris Elementary School and Guy E Rowe Elementary School (located in neighboring Norway).  They asked me to photograph the event and it was so much fun capturing lots and lots of smiling faces as everyone gathered for some healthy activity and visited with each other!  387 people signed up for the event, raising over $8,000 to be split evenly between the 2 schools - which is just incredible for an inaugural event!  The community really showed their support this morning!!
The kiddos did AWESOME in their first race of the season!  Here is my older son running stride for stride with his cross-country, nordic skiing, and track team mate.  They were attempting to run down their cross-country and track team coach, but Coach ended up winning the race!
He finished 3rd overall & was the 1st male under age 19 with a time of 20:24.
Our oldest daughter was 16th overall & was the 1st female under age 19 with a time of 23:58. I love the grin on her face in this picture as she passes one of my running partners and her arch-rival.  He beat her in one race, but she won't ever let that happen again!
Our younger son was 23rd overall & was the 6th male under age 19 with a time of 25:28.
He's turning into quite the photographer like his mom, but also a determined videographer.  You can see in this picture that he is holding onto his Go-Pro camera that was strapped to his chest while recording the race from a runner's perspective!  He ran in that awkward position for the entire 3.1 miles.  He knew he only had a limited amount of memory left, which spurred him on to run faster than he ever has before!!
Our middle daughter was 26th overall & was the 3rd female under age 19 with a time of 26:08.  She is hot on her big sister's heels and determined that she will beat her before the summer is over!  We'll see.  Big sister is well aware of her goal and will fight her off tooth & nail.  There's nothing like a little friendly rivalry to help you push past your boundaries!
Our youngest daughter was 52nd overall & was the 8th female under age 19 with a time of 28:10.  She was smiling every time that I saw her!
I don't even have to tell you all how proud I am, 'cause you already know it!

After the race we grabbed lunch at Cafe Nomad and headed for home...this is what awaited me there.
Lily is such a friendly horse, but even baby porcupines don't appreciate nuzzling!  Fortunately, she was a very good girl and I was able to yank them out without veterinary assistance.

But, I was a little bit stressed out because I still had to help get my son get prepared for this:
His first prom!
He was terribly uncomfortable about getting all dressed up in a tux and acting formal, but he had a great time at the event and told me afterward that he even danced!
What a great looking group of young men and ladies...

Spring Band Concert

I love listening to the band play...they do such a great job and it's especially great to see her up there performing!
